SHANGHAI, Sept. 23, 2026 – PPG (NYSE: PPG) today announced that it showcased PPG Low Temperature Cure coating
technology at the eighth SURCAR Asia automotive conference, held Sept. 16-17 in Shanghai. The technology offers
automakers a path toward more integrated coating processes across multiple substrate types.

Metal bodies and plastic components such as bumpers typically require separate paint processes because of differences
in heat resistance and curing conditions. PPG Low Temperature Cure coating technology combines coating material
design and advanced curing mechanisms to broaden the processing window across metal and plastic substrates, helping
enable more integrated body-and-bumper coating processes.
“This technology is about creating greater flexibility in how vehicles are painted,” said Haijiao Wang, PPG strategic
marketing manager, topcoat, Asia Pacific, Automotive OEM Coatings, who presented the technology at the SURCAR event.
“It streamlines paint operations, delivers consistent color across substrates and enables more integrated
manufacturing processes.”
The platform offers two cure options: a stand-alone basecoat that cures at 110°C on its own, and a three-layer system
that cures at 90°C together. This gives automakers flexibility to match the technology to different parts and
production lines, expand the application of heat-sensitive substrates, and introduce low-temperature curing in
phases according to individual production line requirements. The lower cure temperatures also provide a more
energy-efficient alternative to standard higher-temperature processes that cure at 140°C.
PPG plans to begin line trials with leading automakers worldwide to further evaluate the technology across different
paint processes, production conditions and vehicle platforms, accelerating its progression from technical
development toward broader commercial application.
