Investment of RMB 1 million will benefit 15 universities, thousands of students
SHANGHAI, June 28, 2021 – PPG (NYSE:PPG) today announced the launch of its 2021 University Talent Power Program in China. Through its continuing partnership with non-profit organizations Give2Asia and Live2Give, the company will invest more than RMB 1 million (approximately US$150,000) in PPG Career Intelligence Class events at 15 Chinese universities and a scholarship program at 10 of the schools.
“Supporting education in our communities represents a key part of PPG’s corporate social responsibility efforts,” said Cathy Yan, PPG general manager, corporate and government affairs, Asia Pacific. “Having been rooted in China for many years, PPG actively provides support for higher education in the country and prioritizes developing talent and inspiring innovation. We hope to help develop the next generation of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) talent and create more opportunities for young people to explore their potential.”
PPG initiated its China scholarship program in 2003, aiming to reward outstanding students in the chemical and material fields and encourage them to succeed in the chemical industry. By 2020, more than 1,980 students had received a PPG scholarship.
This year, about 200 students will benefit from the scholarship program and will have direct access to apply to PPG’s internship program by application or an interview during on-campus recruitment. The company is also adding a special scholarship for the New Energy Class at Nankai University to encourage students to pursue breakthroughs in energy storage, transportation and energy sources and also focus on sustainability.
A key component of the PPG University Talent Power Program is the PPG Career Intelligence Class program, which is expected to support 3,000 students at 15 universities in 2021. The program provides guidance on career choice, job hunting, interviewing, career development and other topics for graduating students. Since its launch in 2015, the highly popular program has offered 120 classes to improve the professional qualities and soft skills of more than 13,000 students.
The 10 Chinese universities involved in the PPG scholarship and PPG Career Intelligence Class programs are Beijing University of Chemical Technology, East China University of Science and Technology, Jilin University, Nanjing University, Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Nanjing University of Technology, Nankai University, South China University of Technology, Tianjin University and Wuhan University of Technology. The five additional universities involved in the PPG Career Intelligence Class program are Beihang University, Renmin University of China, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Tsinghua University and Tianjin University of Finance and Economics Pearl River College.
