PPG’s Oak Creek, Wisconsin, Plant Announces $5,000 Grant, Hosts Students for National Manufacturing Day
OAK CREEK, Wis.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
PPG (NYSE: PPG) announced that its Oak Creek plant will host about 16
students from Oak Creek, Racine Case and Racine Park high schools today
for a hands-on educational event.
The event is being held to mark National Manufacturing Day, organized by
the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM), which aims to address
labor opportunities, connect with future generations of manufacturers
and ensure success of the manufacturing industry.
“We’ve participated in this event for the past few years and it is
really exciting to see how enthused students are to see first-hand what
manufacturing is all about,” said John Kovaleski, PPG plant manager, Oak
Creek. “Students gain a deeper understanding of manufacturing, supply
chain, transportation and logistics as well as the many career
opportunities available to them. There is significant growth taking
place in southeastern Wisconsin within manufacturing, and this is
creating abundant opportunities for a range of students, from those
entering the trades to those going to college for chemistry or
engineering. Whatever the career interest, there is a sustainable future
here thanks to manufacturing.”
Students will meet PPG employees and tour the PPG Oak Creek facility to
learn about the manufacturing industry and how it impacts the world
through products or services. They will also participate in hands-on
STEM activities as part of the day. During lunch, State Representative
Jessie Rodriguez (21st District) and Oak Creek Mayor Dan
Bukiewicz will participate in discussions with the students focused on
manufacturing in Wisconsin and career opportunities in the field.
The PPG Foundation also announced a $5,000 grant on behalf of the Oak
Creek facility to Racine Unified School District. The funds will support
a project in partnership with Beepods, which will educate students and
parents on the importance of pollination, saving bees, sustainable
beekeeping and how to create positive change in the local ecosystem that
benefits the entire community. The project will further engage students
in the science, technology, engineering and math fields.
PPG’s Oak Creek facility has nearly 600 employees and manufactures paint
and coatings used in the industrial, automotive and packaging segments.
