PPG’s Mt. Vernon, Illinois, Plant Hosts Students to Mark National Manufacturing Day
MT. VERNON, Ill.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
PPG (NYSE: PPG) announced that its Mt. Vernon, Illinois, facility hosted
students, teachers and government officials on Thursday, Oct. 4 to
educate them about PPG and the opportunities available in manufacturing.
The event was held to mark National Manufacturing Day, organized by the
National Association of Manufacturers (NAM), which aims to address labor
opportunities, connect with future generations of manufacturers and
ensure success of the manufacturing industry.
“We relish the opportunity to have young adults in our plant to educate
them about what we do here,” said Chris Campbell, PPG plant manager, Mt.
Vernon. “This event was a great way for students to network and see if
they are interested in future manufacturing positions.”
About 200 students from Mt. Vernon Township High School, Webber Township
High School, Waltonville High School and Woodlawn High School
participated. Students met PPG employees, learned about safety
procedures, received a tour of the plant and learned about plant
operations, products and career opportunities.
PPG’s Mt. Vernon facility employs approximately 50 people and
manufactures industrial coatings.
