PPG Completes COLORFUL COMMUNITIES Project in Cieszyn, Poland, City Center
Company joins Cieszyn city authorities to sponsor premiere Mur Art
festival of murals
PITTSBURGH--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
PPG (NYSE:PPG) today announced the completion of a COLORFUL COMMUNITIES™
project in Cieszyn, Poland, that helped to revitalize and beautify the
city center by adding colorful mural art to a wall and sponsoring the
first-ever Mur Art festival of murals. The Colorful Communities
program provides PPG employees and products along with financial
contributions to bring color and vitality to communities where our
company operates around the world, such as Cieszyn, where PPG operates
an industrial coatings plant.
For the effort, PPG provided more than $10,000, including about 16
gallons (more than 60 liters) of SIGMA COATINGS® brand INDURIN™ paint
products as well as DEKORAL™ Gold painting supplies. Also, working
together with Cieszyn city authorities, PPG helped to create and
organize the premiere Mur Art festival of murals, holding a contest for
artists to submit ideas for the best mural showing the heritage,
traditions or legends related to the Cieszyn area.
The Colorful Communities project brought together more than 20
PPG volunteers from the local PPG industrial coatings plant, who spent
two days revitalizing an old wall located in the city center by creating
a bright, colorful mural showing the most recognizable buildings of
Cieszyn – the watch tower and the castle. On the building next to this
wall, contest-winning artist Mikołaj Rejs created a mural based on the
Legend of Three Brothers, which is the story of the founding of the city.
“Together with the city of Cieszyn, PPG is working to beautify and add
color to areas visited by many residents and tourists,” said Waldemar
Gołębiewski, PPG plant manager at the Cieszyn industrial coatings
facility. “The idea of a festival of murals seemed like a perfect
opportunity to both show that PPG is a responsible partner of the local
community and brighten the city with our durable and colorful products.”
The Colorful Communities program is PPG’s signature initiative
for community engagement efforts, with the aim to protect and beautify
the neighborhoods where PPG operates around the world. The program
increases PPG’s commitment to invest in communities by adding $10
million to support efforts made during a 10-year period. It supports
projects that transform community assets, providing PPG volunteers and
donated PPG products. PPG completed 11 Colorful Communities
projects in 2015, and it expects to complete more than 30 this year.
PPG and the PPG Foundation aim to bring color and brightness to PPG
communities around the world. We donated more than $7.8 million in 2015
to hundreds of community organizations across 20 countries. By investing
in educational opportunities, we help grow today’s skilled workforce and
develop tomorrow’s innovators in industries related to coatings and
specialty materials. Plus, we empower PPG employees to make an impact
for causes that are important to them by supporting their volunteer
